My Wedding:Second Time Around!
I thought I would share with you lovely Wonderful Wraps followers something very topical and dear to my heart this week. On the 28th February 2011 I got married for the 2nd Time to my now husband, Matt! So this week saw our First Anniversary come and go and it made me think that sharing some of my ideas, inspiration and a visual tour may help some of you beautiful brides that are deciding to believe in true love and try this a second time around!
I’m sure some of you may have felt similar to me when I decided to say yes on a beach in Rhode Island – should I try this again? How can i make this day feel different to the first time round? What should I wear?shall we just run away?!!!!
Luckily for me, my now husband, wanted to take full control of the days events! This was, after all, his first time (and he believes ONLY time!) of going down the marriage path. And I have to say, a path I am so pleased I took the big step down!
So enough of my rambling! The big questions need to be addressed!Where to get married?Should this be a small affair? What to wear? What about Flowers and Accessories?
Well, for me at least, this all came very naturally. As I said earlier, Matt wanted to organize the main structure of the day, but I of course wanted to put my touches and style on what was to be the one of the most amazing (and emotional) days of my life! Matt and I had been through so much together ( long term sickness, divorce and a HUGE Ocean!) I hope that what you are reading shows you that love really does have no real boundaries!
So – for the venue – we decided to do it right by our fire place, in our own home, with just a handful of family (and animals!).
The guests – My now Mother-In-Law,her best friend,my Cousin and his husband, and of course, the animals!
As my Mum and Step Father could not make the journey ‘Across the pond’, we made sure they did not miss a minute by having them right there on our LapTop – they were even the first people to sit in the stretch white Hummer that was waiting outside the house to take us to our reception location!
Our Flowers were created by the most fabulous independent Florist based here in New England called Black Iris Floral Design. I took control of this area – not really trusting Matt with colours! .. and just wanted it to have a vintage feel and to compliment my dress choice. The yellow roses were key as they were my Mother-In-Laws recently deceased Mothers favorite – so we worked around this style of flower and colour. Golden tones mixed with the vibrance of spring yellow roses!
I chose my dress with the help of the most fabulous lady that I met whilst browsing in Valentino on Newbury Street. Eleanor was sent to me from heaven – I felt like Julia Roberts out of Pretty Woman! After looking at designs well out of my price range I described to Eleanor the Vintage Vibe I wanted to achieve (this was second time around after all!) and all three must have items were found! The dress, the shoes and the vintage Valentino wrap – Im still in love with all 3! Have a look at Wonderful Wraps Light Cashmere collection. You may find something similar that would work for your day.
Myaccessories were very understated – earrings and bracelet bought from Swarovski. I kept them golden to be in keeping with the rest of the theme. We have similar items here at Wonderful Wraps – have a look at our Accessories section on the website.
Our reception started at the Fairmont Copley Plaza and continued at one of our favorite restaurants in the South End – Stella. They allowed me to dress the table, add the champagne favours, and our yellow rose Wedding Cupcake arrangement – and of course all the beautiful flowers! I actually, and painstakingly, made all the tags, labels and place settings the night before the wedding! Thanks to paper source I could get all the tools and materials needed to create something that would fit with our theme. Nothing like last minute – but it felt more personal and special as it was made by my hand – which really was what this second marriage was about – personal and made of love – real love!
The Cupcakes were even more special as the stand was sent to me by one of my best friends as a wedding gift – so it felt like she was with me in a strange sort of way!
The most amazing and poignant part of this day was knowing that my first wedding – full blown big white wedding, 4 bands, llamas and televised – was sadly more about the day rather than what it should be – two people who just want to be together for a lifetime. It’s just so easy to get caught up in the roller coaster ride and you cant’t get off(or don’t know how!) That’s where I think any of you thinking about getting married for the second time may agree with me – you just want it to be really personal and about the two of you – everything else is secondary. We only had Matts friends for the reception – a decision not easily made as I have the most amazing and vast set of friends. But all understood. I wanted to focus on Matts wants and needs – which I did!
Ladies, second time around can be so great,so different – whether divorce has brought you here or bereavement – it’s important to live and love no matter what. I hope some of my ideas may inspire you and maybe you would send in some photos to email@example.com so we can feature you on our Facebook page. I would love to hear some of your stories and pictures of your special day. This is something to be celebrated!
